in grad school i took an integrated marketing campaigns class (this was before the HUGE social media marketing boom) and our final project was to create a marketing campaign, start to finish, for a major brand.
my brand was the city of san diego. my entire campaign was this EXACT project. well, not exactly, because social networking wasn’t as evolved so there wasn’t a submission aspect. but it was all about creating postcards of the city from the eye of a native, not a tourist, and sending them across the nation to show the greatness, gain awareness and garner tourism.
i’m glad to see that someone is doing this. i’m also glad to see that grad school aided in me becoming the idea maker that i hoped to be.
i love this idea.
Wish You Were Here MI | The Wish You Were Here project is funded by the AIGI Detroit group. The goal is to ask users to submit images of various favored locations around Michigan. Winning entries are converted to postcards and then sent around the nation.
I am incredibly excited about this project. This is a great way for Michiganders, Detroiters especially, to showcase the charms and attractions that non-residents would never know about.

Postcards from Detroit…I love it!
