A friend of mine sent me a link the other day to the infamous ruin porn pictures of Detroit. These photos I feel were the catalyst for dialouge, conversation, change, movement, and momentum for the city to move forward and to leave this portrait of the city behind.
The photos are part of a collection from Yves March and and Romain Meffre’s s documentation of the dramatic decline. These used to anger me. Now I feel as if they are part of our catalyst for change. Something that I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I really like your perspective on the this because I admittedly felt the same way. But the so-called “ruin porn” really is what lit the fire under the butts of hundreds, if not thousands, who wanted to see a drastic change and slowly but surely are making it happen.
