video

Just recently finished up watching a new documentary on YouTube from BBC.  It’s called “Requiem for Detroit” and it offers a unique perspective on the city’s past and offers insight as to whose to blame for it’s downfall.  It includes some interesting and different perspectives, to say the least, some of which I do not necessarily agree with. As a forewarning, for whatever reason the ridiculously self-absorbed Martha Reeves is featured several times during the piece.  If anything though, it does offer a look at some cool and rare historical footage from the city.  I’m not sure how I feel about the overall work but nonetheless, if you have some time, it’s an enlightening watch that can however be a bit sensationalistic, not to mention pessimistic, at some points.  All eight parts are posted on Youtube, it’s only about an hour long. The clip above is the first segment.

An interesting side note: the video featured in the opening is of Mayor Jerome Cavanagh in 1965 that was intended for use during Detroit’s unsuccessful bid for the Olympic summer games that year.
