TIME Q&A with Detroit’s Devin Scillian

TIME’s Detroit Blog recently profiled Local 4 News man Devin Scillian. Some topics discussed included his music career (believe it or not) and what he has learned in his more than 15 years living and working here in Detroit.  Plus, Scillian gives his thoughts on Kwame and the big role music plays in here the city.

Some highlights:

on his music career — his country single “Half Past You” was number 1 in Denmark in 2005 (who knew?!?).

on music in Detroit — “Some people want to pigeonhole it as only Motown…a lot of genres find a home here…it’s a shame the rock and roll hall of fame isn’t here [in Detroit].”

on Kwame — “But it’s not just the Kwame story…because what’s slowly happened over many years in Detroit is this system of corruption has become institutionalized…if you just leave it [at the text message scandal] it’s like cutting the heads off the dandelions in your yard…you have to get down to the roots.”
